Do your gums bleed when you brush and floss your teeth? Has your dental professional talk to you about gingivitis? This word has a bad rap for all the right reasons!

Gingivitis is a disease of your gums. It can occur from bacteria and film sitting on the teeth, gums and surrounding structures for a long period of time. The bacteria creates ulcer-like lesions causing red, bleeding and swollen gums.
If left untreated, gingivitis can cause bad breath, sore irritated gums, tartar/calculus formation and it can lead to periodontitis (bone and tooth loss).
Gingivitis is reversible! It can be prevented and/or reversed by good oral hygiene, so make sure you are taking the time to properly clean around and in between your teeth and along your gum line. Smoking, poor nutrition, chipped or broken teeth, autoimmune disease and some prescribed medications can increase your risk for developing gingivitis.
Prevent gingivitis and oral diseases by seeing your dentist regularly and practicing good oral hygiene!
